System Wide Joint Position Sensor Fault Tolerance in Robot Systems Using Cartesian Accelerometers
نویسنده
چکیده
Joint position sensors are necessary for most robot control systems. A single position sensor failure in a normal robot system can greatly degrade performance. This paper presents a method to obtain position information from Cartesian accelerometers without integration. Depending on the number and location of the accelerometers. the proposed system can tolerate the loss of multiple position sensors. A solution technique suitable for real-time implementation is presented. Simulations were conducted using 5 triaxial accelerometers to recover from the loss of up to 4 joint position sensors on a 7 degree of freedom robot moving in general three dimensional space. The simulations show good estimation performance using non-ideal accelerometer measurements.

Experimental Robot Position Sensor Fault Tolerance Using Accelerometers and Joint Torque Sensors
Robot systems in critical applications, such as those in space and nuclear environments, must be able to operate during component failure to complete important tasks. One failure mode that has received little attention is the failure of joint position sensors. Current fault tolerant designs require the addition of directly redundant position sensors which can affect joint design. The proposed m...
متن کاملImprovement of position measurement for 6R robot using magnetic encoder AS5045
Recording the variation of joint angles as a feedback to the control unit is frequent in articulated arms. In this paper, magnetic sensor AS5045, which is a contactless encoder, is employed to measure joint angles of 6R robot and the performance of that is examined. The sensor has a low volume, two digital outputs and provides a high resolution measurement for users; furthermore its zero positi...
متن کاملDesign of an Adaptive Fuzzy Estimator for Force/Position Tracking in Robot Manipulators
This paper presents a stable new algorithm for force/position control in robot manipulators. In this algorithm, position vectors are measured by sensors and then used in the control law. Since using force sensor has some issues such as high costs and technical problems, an approach is presented to overcome these issues. In this respect, force sensor is replaced by an adaptive fuzzy estimator to...
متن کاملAccommodation Rule Based on Navigation Accuracy for Double Faults in Redundant Inertial Sensor Systems
This paper considers a fault accommodation problem for inertial navigation systems (INS) that have redundant inertial sensors such as gyroscopes and accelerometers. It is wellknown that the more sensors are used, the smaller the navigation error of INS is, which means that the error covariance of the position estimate becomes less. Thus, when it is decided that double faults occur in the inerti...
متن کاملFault Tolerance in Cooperative Manipulators
The problem of fault tolerance in cooperative manipulators rigidly connected to a solid object is addressed in this paper. Four faults are considered: free-swinging joint faults, locked joint faults, incorrect measured joint position, and incorrect measured joint velocity. The faults are first detected by a fault detection and isolation system. Freeswinging and locked joint faults are isolated ...
